Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Bible say about loneliness?
The Bible acknowledges loneliness as a real human experience. Psalm 25:16-17 cries 'Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.' God recognized that it was not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). Yet Scripture promises God's unfailing presence — Deuteronomy 31:6 says He will never leave or forsake His people.
How does God comfort the lonely?
Psalm 68:6 says God 'setteth the solitary in families.' Jesus promised 'I will not leave you comfortless' (John 14:18) and 'I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world' (Matthew 28:20). When Paul was abandoned by everyone, 'the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me' (2 Timothy 4:16-17). God meets the lonely through His presence and through His people.
Is it wrong for Christians to feel lonely?
Not at all. Even Jesus experienced isolation — His disciples fell asleep when He needed them most (Matthew 26:40), and He cried out on the cross feeling forsaken (Matthew 27:46). David, Elijah, and Jeremiah all expressed deep loneliness in Scripture. Loneliness is not a sign of weak faith; it is a human experience that God meets with compassion and presence.
